Victoria Udalova will present to the audience a new painting project «Province», on which she worked during the pandemic. It is based on pictures of real life in her native provincial city, where she had to leave Moscow for a while. As the artist writes, this is «an image of people I accidentally met on the market, but not randomly chosen for my works, who relate to fate as an absolute predestination.» Along with large-format story canvases, for example: «The saleswoman of rags» and «Lena is a Fool», the project includes a series of paintings that focus our attention on the most expressive landscape, portrait and subject images of a provincial city.The author notes that «the series consists of flashes of my memory, made in a single technique, the essence of which is that three types of techniques correspond to three times: the fact that these people have remained in the past is emphasized by black-and-white parts of figures and landscapes; the fact that they are present now is colored fragments of the most expressive details: faces, hands, dolls; the absence of a future is expressed in parts of the works rolled up with a brush or roller, which can be both an allegory of their erasure by time, and an invisible, but very strong fence and the social distance between poverty and security»
